WKU knocks off MTSU 36-33 in double overtime

WKU players and coaches rushed the field Thursday night after Bobby Rainey’s winning touchdown against MTSU in double overtime at Floyd Field in Murfreesboro, Tenn. WKU won 36-33.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — WKU finally closed a game, and

the Toppers did it in dramatic fashion on Thursday night.

Bobby Rainey’s 7-yard touchdown reception in double

overtime sealed a 36-33 win over Middle Tennessee to give WKU its

first win of the season.

Rainey rushed for 146 yards on 37 carries and caught

six passes for 57 yards, helping the Toppers overcome a litany of

dropped passes and missed field goals in their first road game of

the season.

Kicker Casey Tinius missed attempts from 46 and 48

yards during the game, and receiver Joel German dropped a wide open

touchdown pass in the end zone in the third quarter.

Additioanlly, Tinius had a kick blocked that would

have won it for WKU in regulation.

Instead the Toppers and Blue Raiders matched with

touchdowns in the first overtime. Rainey’s touchdown reception

answered an MTSU field goal to notch the win.
