WKU announced its new Environment, Health and Safety Director Thursday in a press release.

David Oliver, who has an associate’s degree in fire protection from WKU and is currently pursuing an educational leadership doctoral degree at WKU, will begin his new position Dec. 1.

“David’s strong technical skills and proven leadership experience at General Motors makes him well suited for this position,” John Osborne, vice president for Campus Services and Facilities, said in the press release.

Oliver also has both a bachelor’s degree in loss prevention and safety and a master’s degree in security, safety and emergency management from Eastern Kentucky University.

Oliver, a native of Bowling Green and the current supervisor of Health and Safety at General Motors’ Bowling Green facility, said his roots at WKU made him eager to get the new position.

“I am looking forward to the diversity of the university setting relative to environmental health, safety and fire protection,” he said in the press release. “The positive growth that I have seen over the years, coupled with plans for further international reach, make this opportunity even more appealing to me.”
