Junior tight end Jack Doyle had his best performance of the season Thursday in WKU’s 36-33 win over Middle Tennessee State, catching six passes for 100 yards.

For those efforts, Doyle was on Wednesday named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week by the Nassau County Sports Commission.

Doyle’s 100 yards Thursday were a career high, as WKU notched its first win of the season.

Other candidates considered for the award were Tyler Eifert of Notre Dame and Luke Wilson of Rice.

Doyle was in August named to the preseason watch list for the Mackey Award, given each year to the nation’s top tight end.

The Mackey Award mid-season watch list will be released Monday at www.johnmackeyaward.org.

Doyle couldn’t be reached for comment, as he announced in August he’s boycotting the media until WKU wins its first home game since 2008.
