Forest “Frosty” Able
Able was a former WKU basketball player from
1954-1956, helping his team earn three Ohio Valley Conference
Championships. A 6-foot-3 guard, Able averaged 18 points per game
and tallied 1,221 career points — No. 21 on WKU’s all-time scoring
leaders list. He was selected the No. 21 overall pick in the 1956
NBA Draft by the Syracuse Nationals, now known as the Philadelphia
76ers, where he played one year in the league.
Mike Murray
Murray was a WKU baseball player from 1977-1980.
During that time he set school records for career at-bats (804),
runs scored (180), hits (236), doubles (46) and stolen bases (89),
among others. He was named the 1980 Ohio Valley Conference Player
of the year. He hit .335 with 46 doubles, seven triples and 22 home
runs. Murray is still ranked as one of the top 10 players in WKU
history in runs scored, at-bats, hits and doubles. He was drafted
in the 22nd round of the 1980 Major League Baseball draft to the
Cincinnati Reds, where he played for two years.
Jack Turner
Turner began his college basketball career at WKU in
1949 and earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors three times.
After serving two years in the military during the Korean War, he
returned to WKU in 1953 when he earned his last All-OVC honor.
Turner finished his career totaling 1,123 points. He was the eighth
overall pick by New York Knicks in the 1954 NBA draft and was the
second player in WKU history to be selected in the first round.
