University Senate votes against faculty Regent term limits

The following items were topics of discussion at Thursday’s University Senate meeting:

  • The faculty welfare committee gave a recommendation that WKU refrain from placing a limit on the number of years that a faculty Regent can serve on the Board of Regents. The full senate then voted unanimously to approve the recommendation.
  • Current Faculty Regent Patti Minter is running against Pamela Petty for the position of Faculty Regent. Elections are on Oct. 13 and nominations are open until Sept. 29. A candidate forum for the faculty is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 10.
  • Gordon Emslie, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, provided senators with a chart showing current placement criteria for WKU students. Emslie also discussed details for the action plan, saying he hopes to look at the potential for success in students rather than just their background.
