Notes from this week’s Panhellenic meeting

From this week’s Panhellenic meeting:

—Scholarship Chair Rachel Gumble said the project for this semester is providing the chapter members with “scholarship incentives” and encouraging them to focus on academics. They will also reference good ways for their students to achieve this.

—Some upcoming events were mentioned at this point in the meeting. Weekend in the Woods, a freshman leadership retreat, is taking place on Sept. 9-10. Around 25-30 chapter members will be able to attend.

—On Sept. 24, there will be a New Member Symposium. Michelle Guobadia from Campuspeak will be a guest speaker. There will also be a Panhellenic panel so that the new members will be able to directly ask questions.

—Alpha Xi Delta has recruitment this week and will continue to provide information at a table in Downing University Center.

—An important message the board wanted to get out to all its chapter members is that they don’t condone participation in fraternities’ bid day parties. They will not police this themselves but will leave it up to the individual chapters and their presidents.

—The meeting ended with each chapter’s delegates giving a report on how many new members had been accepted into each sorority on bid day and a brief overview chapter progress so far.

—The first Jr. Panhellenic meeting will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. on the third floor of DUC.
