Head Coach Willie Taggart on Saturday night introduced a familiar bunch of WKU captains.

Taggart tweeted his lineup of junior tight end Jack Doyle, senior defensive lineman Jared Clendenin and sophomore punter Hendrix Brakefield.

“Great young men to lead our team,” Taggart said in his tweet.

This season marks Doyle and Clendenin’s second year as captains.

A season ago, Taggart also chose a captain apiece from offense, defense and special teams. Doyle represented the offense, Clendenin the defense and kicker Casey Tinius the special teams.

Rather than choose captains on a game-by-game basis, Taggart let his trio lead the team throughout the whole season. It remains to be seen if the second-year coach will do the same in 2011.

Captains were announced with one week of the Toppers’ fall camp remaining. WKU opens its season Sept. 1 against Kentucky at Nashville’s L.P. Field.
