Kappa Delta, Alpha Gamma Rho victorious at Greek Week’s tug

Alpha Delta Pi sorority members pull against Alpha Gamma Delta for third place at tug on Friday. Rain was expected, but the clouds passed and sun came out near the end of the event. Kappa Delta won the sorority title, and Alpha Gamma Rho won among fraternities.

A rainy day didn’t keep a crowd away from Greek Week’s tug on Friday at the WKU Ag Exposition Center.

Each organization had the opportunity to prove its skills in a game of tug-o-war.

Kappa Delta beat out all other sororities, while Alpha Gamma Rho won on the fraternity side.

Sorority and fraternity members alike gathered around the fence to the cheer on their brothers and sisters dressed in their respective organizations’ letters and colors.

Sebree junior Jordan Cottingham said Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity won during his first year in 2009, but lost to FarmHouse last year “by an inch.”

“We came out this year pumped up and ready to take names,” Cottingham said.

FarmHouse finished second and Delta Tau Delta in third place among fraternities.

Phi Mu and Alpha Delta Pi came in second and third place, respectively, among sororities.

Kappa Delta has won the past seven years in a row.

Shelbyville junior Corie Powers participated in tug for the winning team. She said this was her first year competing.

“I’m really happy that I did it,” Powers said.

Cadiz sophomore Dori Sheehan was on Kappa Delta’s team for the second year.

“I feel great. It was mostly my team that helped, but we did really good,” she said. “We worked hard. We’ve been working for about three to five months on it.”
