FX Design Group, which specializes in broadcast set deisgn, announced Wednesday that WKU’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting has won its “Ultimate Newscast Makeover” contest.
Renovations will happen during February and March, with WKU’s new set ready for use by mid-March, according to an FX Design press release.
WKU was up against MI News 26, a TV startup from Cadillac, Mich., in an online poll to determine the contest’s winner.
Although it appeared for much of the contest that WKU trailed in the vote, the FX Group determined that there were problems with the poll.
Both MI News 26 and WKU agreed on a winner, and MI News will receive technical advice from FX Design in its re-branding as consolation, according to the press release.
“We know that the University and its students will benefit over the long term from this outcome and should enjoy this addition to their academic broadcast program,” said MI News 26 in a statement. “We also look forward to working with the experienced FX Group down the road when it comes time for us to realize our new news set.”
The FX group has redone sets in Dallas, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Kansas City, among others, according to its website.
