Peters ruled academically ineligible for rest of 2010-11 season

Freshman guard Brandon Peters was declared academically ineligible for the rest of the 2010-11 season due to NCAA rules. After losing Ken Brown to academic troubles, Peters had filled in as WKU’s starting point guard.

The turmoil continues for WKU.

The men’s basketball team released a statement before Saturday’s game at Arkansas State, announcing that freshman guard Brandon Peters is academically ineligible for the rest of the 2010-11 season.

“Peters remains on the team, will participate in practices and meetings, and is enrolled for the second semester of the current year,” the statement said.

Peters, who recently took over at point guard after Ken Brown’s dismissal, has started nine games this season and averaged 6.5 points and 1.9 assists.

With Peters done for the year and Brown gone, the Toppers are left with sophomore Jamal Crook and freshman walk-on Mike Gabbard at point guard. Junior shooting guard Kahlil McDonald also played some at the point earlier in the season.
