Parking changes in place during event

The projected influx of people in town on Friday and Saturday due to the Gridiron Bowl has caused campus authorities to issue special parking regulations for the weekend.

Lori Kostiuk, a WKU advertising specialist with Parking and Transportation Services, said vehicles remaining in Creason after 6:00 p.m. yesterday will be towed.

Free parking for students with a housing permit will be available in the Normal and Chestnut Street South lots until Dec. 5, she said. Other parking for students with a housing permit will still include Parking Structure 1 from floors four to seven.

Free parking for commuter students will be available at the Center street and Campbell Lane lots, as well as a temporary lot at Bowling Green Ballpark, Kostiuk said.

The lots at Campbell Lane, by South Campus, and Bowling Green Ballpark will have shuttle services to campus, she said.

Kostiuk said normal parking regulations will resume at 7:00 a.m. Monday.

Perry Freeze, one of the dispatchers for Parking and Transportation, said Parking and Transportation reserves the right to tow any cars left in the Creason Lot if there is a crowding issue with parking for the Gridiron Bowl this weekend.

He said Parking and Transportation has given the WKU community an ample amount of notifications about the change including several e-mails and releases.

Perry said that parking officials will be a little more “lax” than usual over the next couple of days to help out with the crowding from the Bowl traffic.

“People who have housing permits specified for housing levels and other lots can go and park in the commuter lots this weekend,” he said.

Perry said that dean spots and disability spots will still be enforced.
