Junior guard Kahlil McDonald will not join WKU for Memphis game Saturday

A source close to the situation told the Herald Friday that junior guard Kahlil McDonald will not play in WKU’s game at No. 14 Memphis Saturday, and is in fact not on the trip.

The decision was not the result of a suspension or violation of team rules, but rather a mutual decision between McDonald and WKU Head Coach Ken McDonald, according to the source.

The current plan is for Kahlil McDonald to rejoin the team after it returns from Memphis on Sunday, and the junior is expected to be available to play when WKU travels to Bowling Green State Wednesday.

Kahlil McDonald sent a tweet from his Twitter account Friday afternoon about his absence from the trip, writing: “GoodLuck 2 my teamates, take care of business…Yal in my prayers.”

This season is Kahlil McDonald’s first at WKU after transferring from Blinn College. He is currently 4.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 16.4 minutes per game. He has come off the bench in each contest.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Memphis.
