The Lady Toppers (4-6) will try to win their fifth game in six tries as they visit Vanderbilt (7-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Commodores are 6-0 in Memorial Gymnasium this season. Follow along with the game as Herald women’s hoops writer Cole Claybourn provides updates.

The Lady Toppers are on pace to have the lowest second half total of any Vanderbilt opponent this season. They currently have 20. Lowest before tonight was Quinnipiac with 24.

Head Coach Mary Taylor Cowles was issued a technical foul for arguing with an official. Things have really gone downhill for the Lady Toppers since the first 10 minutes when they were ahead.

The Lady Toppers can’t seem to cut into the Vanderbilt lead. They aren’t helping themselves, shooting 29.3 percent with 13 turnovers. Vanderbilt also has two players in double figures. Arnika Brown and LaTeira Owens both have three fouls as well.

Halftime: Vanderbilt 28, WKU 22

Vanderbilt went on an 9-1 run to close out the half and now has its largest lead. Amy McNear’s desperation half-court shot bounced off the front of the rim and the Lady Toppers will head in to the half down six. Arnika Brown has 9 points to lead the Lady Toppers and LaTeira Owens has eight. The Lady Toppers are shooting 31.3 percent from the field.

They Lady Toppers are still clinging to a slim lead. They allowed Vanderbilt to take their first lead with a lay-up to go up 17-16 with 6:45 left to play. Arnika Brown tied up after making one of two free-throws. Her free-throw ended a five-minute scoring drought for WKU.

Vanderbilt put a quick 6-2 run together in a 2-minute span to go down just three, then hit two free-throws to cut it to within one with 9:15 left and it’s been scoreless since.
