On Friday, the Boys and Girls Club in Bowling Green was presented with a check for $65,000 from the United Way of Southern Kentucky.

Mandy Hicks, director of volunteering and brand management at United Way, said the money had been raised over the course of the year through 7,500 donations from people and corporations.

She said the Club is a partner agency to United Way.

Hicks said most of the money they collected was through fundraising campaigns at businesses.

“About 98 percent of what we allocate back is through company campaigns,” she said.

Hicks said this is the first year that United Way has contributed to the Boys and Girls Club.

In past years, the organization has contributed to Girls Inc.,which is another local nonprofit community organization.
