The WKU soccer team finished its regular season schedule Friday night with a 2-0 loss at Middle Tennessee.
The loss was the third straight for WKU (8-8-2, 6-5 Sun Belt Conference) and sets the sixth-seeded Lady Toppers up against third-seeded North Texas on Wednesday in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament in Bowling Green.
MTSU (12-8, 9-2 Sun Belt Conference) netted the go-ahead score of Friday’s match in the 17th minute with a goal by sophomore midfielder Paige Goeglein.
Junior midfielder Hope Suominen added a second and final goal for the Blue Raiders in the 37th minute.
Though WKU matched Middle Tennessee’s shot on goal output at six, the Lady Toppers were outshot 13-11 overall.
It wasn’t all grim for WKU, as the Lady Toppers recorded two shots on goal in the first nine minutes.
Sophomore forwards Sydney Sisler and Laura Ray contributed the two shots. Ray played just over half of the match but had three shots, two of them on goal.
Junior forward Lindsey Goad tied Ray’s shot total at three.
