Shoe drive underway

Christian Family Radio is currently having a shoe drive for the shoe charity, Soles4Souls, that will last until the end of the month, according to a recent Christian Family Radio press release.

This is the fourth year the organization has done this, said Derek Gregory, promotions director for the station.

He said that the idea came from one of their listeners.

They are asking for new or gently worn shoes to be donated to any of the four drop-off locations in southwestern Kentucky, Gregory said.

The locations are:

-StorPlace Self Storage of Greenwood, at 1628 Campbell Lane

-Shoe Stop, 4650 Frederica St. in Owensboro, Ky.

-Pioneer Health Food Store, 806 Columbia Ave. in Glasgow, Ky.

-Scottsville United Methodist Church, 400 E. Main St. in Scottsville, Ky.

Donated shoes will go to Haiti, he said.

Gregory estimated that the drive has collected more than 2,000 pairs of shoes so far.

He said the drive allows listeners of the station to give back in ways they may not have gotten to otherwise.

“Many of our listeners would like to go on mission trips, but that can be rather expensive, so this provides them a way to give love and encouragement in a tangible way,” Gregory said.

Mark Anes, manager at the StorPlace Self Storage of Greenwood, said the response has been good so far.

He said they have collected about 400 shoes.
