Alphas, AKAs win Step Show
October 31, 2010
Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority took first place in the National Pan-Hellenic Council Step Show on Saturday night.
“I’m overwhelmed, a lot of hard work was put into this,” Alpha member Michael Warren said. “It’s great to see yourself go out and execute a great show for the students.”
Alpha’s step routine was a parody of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
AKA member Rahwa Mehari called their win “unbelievable.”
“I need it to sink in,” she said.
AKA’s theme was from “SAW, we want to play a game.”
Hundreds of students and alumni gathered in Diddle Arena to support the seven participating fraternities and sororities.
Hosted by Rip Michaels, the crowd was loud singing and dancing to the older and newer pop, hip-hop and R&B songs.
There weren’t any sore feelings from the competing organizations.
“I had so much fun,” Delta Sigma Theta member Rae Daniel said. “Congratulations to AKA.”
NPHC’s focus is to further education at WKU and donate money to scholarships. The Step Show raised $60,000, donating $5,000 to the College Heights Foundation.
