September 25, 2010
The WKU volleyball team opened Sun Belt Conference play with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-17) sweep of Arkansas State on Friday night in Jonesboro, Ark.
WKU (12-4, 1-0 Sun Belt Conference) had three players with hitting percentages above .400 and finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .343. Arkansas State (6-7, 0-1) was limited to a .124 hitting percentage.
Senior outside hitter Emily Teegarden led the Lady Topper offense with 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage.
WKU never trailed in the first set and led by as many as 13 points in the second. It took a come-from-behind effort, however, for the Lady Toppers to seal it in the third. The set tied four times, but after jumping ahead 17-16, WKU racked up eight of the next nine points to close out the match.
The Lady Toppers return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday against Arkansas-Little Rock in Little Rock, Ark.
