WKU volleyball runs its record over .500 with win over Northeastern

The WKU volleyball team claimed a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 26-24) sweep of Northeastern on Friday in their first game of the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Northeastern (2-2) managed only a .175 overall hitting percentage, while the Lady Toppers’ defense had three different players with double-digit digs.

Sophomore Jordyn Skinner led WKU (3-2) with 16 digs, followed by sophomore Sarah Rogers with 14 and senior Kelly Potts’ 13 digs. The Lady Toppersc accumulated a season-high 65 digs.

During play, WKU took the lead in the first two games with kills by junior Tiffany Elmore, who recorded 13, and senior Emily Teegarden, who had 11.

Northeastern started the third game with an early lead, but the Lady Toppers fought back to tie. An Elmore kill on match point secured the win for WKU.

WKU begins the second day of the Xavier Invitational with a match against IPFW at 9 a.m. tomorrow. The Lady Toppers finish the tournament againt host Xavier at 6 p.m. Saturday.
