WKU volleyball wins Billiken Invitational; Elmore MVP

After taking a hard loss in five sets to Marshall the day before, the Lady Toppers decided it was time to play.

WKU (10-4) won the Billiken Invitational after winning back-to-back matches over St. Louis 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19) and Lipscomb 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-21) in St. Louis on Saturday.

The tournament champion was based on the number of set wins.

Against SLU (5-7), the Lady Toppers recorded a .278 hitting percentage with only three attacking errors.

Both teams battled with six ties and four lead changes in the first set before senior Emily Teegarden recorded two of the final four points to give WKU the advantage.

By the third set, the Lady Toppers found a rhythm in a 10-2 run to take a 19-11 lead. WKU won the final set with a score of 25-19.

With her performance, Teegarden was named to the all-tournament team and junior Tiffany Elmore was named the tournament’s MVP.

Both St. Louis and Lipscomb had RPI rankings in the top 40 in the country before tournament play began.

The Lady Toppers return home for a mid-week matchup against Belmont in Diddle Arena at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
