I am dismayed the College Heights Herald chose to use the word ‘liberal’ in describing the person who defaced the bench at the Guthrie Tower. By definition, the word ‘liberal’ means “one who is open-minded or not strict in the observance of orthodox, traditional or established forms or ways; or a member or supporter of a liberal political party,” and nowhere does it say ‘vandal.’ As someone who considers herself a liberal, I take offense at those of like mind being called vandals when no such proof exists.

The truth of the matter is, many people are anti-Bush (gasp – even some Republicans!) and the damage may have been done by ANY person or group. (Having said that, however, I too denounce the actions taken by the person or persons responsible – no point is made by stupid actions.)

For future reference, please remember that a liberal does not necessarily a vandal make.

Thank you,
