Freshman gains recognition

Western freshman Courtney Wood has been voted the Sun Belt Conference field performer of the week.

She earned the honor by winning two events at the National City Invitational Track and Field Meet over the weekend. She won both the discus and shot put competitions during the first collegiate track meet at Western in 22 years.

Wood’s performance in the shot put met the qualifying standard for the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 24-27 in Buffalo, N.Y.

Lady Toppers holding banquet

Western’s women’s team will welcome their fans to come celebrate their season at the Lady Topper Basketball Banquet on Monday.

The event will start at 6 p.m. in Diddle Arena. Admission is $25 and reservations can be made by calling 745-2133.

The Lady Toppers went 20-14 this season and finished tied for the Sun Belt Conference East Division Championship.
