Spring football starts today

Western’s football team will start spring practice today at Smith Stadium.

Expectations are high after last season’s trip to the NCAA I-AA quarterfinals.

Now two years removed from winning the 2002 national championship, coach David Elson believes that his recruiting class for the fall will be one of the best Western has seen.

The quarterback and running back positions are set but the wide receiver slots should be open for competition.

On the defensive side, the secondary will be looking for two new starters, to replace departed senior captains Antonio Veals and Jeremy Chandler.
