Three Phi Mu members die in I-65 accident

Three Western students were killed and two were injured Saturday morning while driving on Interstate 65 near Upton.

Rachel Blevins, 19, of Oakland was driving an Acura SUV northbound on a snow-covered I-65 when she lost control of the vehicle, which struck a rock wall and then a tree. The SUV then rolled over, according to a press release from Kentucky State Police.

Katie Jeter, 19, of Franklin, Tenn., and Rachel Cate, 18, of Nashville, along with Blevins, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Jessica Sutton, 19, of Henderson, Tenn., and Cara Wright, 18, of Germantown, Tenn., were taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown with minor injuries.

The women, all members of Phi Mu sorority, were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Kentucky State Police from the Elizabethtown post are investigating.
