One might wear cotton, another a taffeta ball gown and yet another an electrical shock device to keep unwanted strangers away.

If vaginas could get dressed, those are just a few of the things they would be wearing. At least that’s what some women told author Eve Ensler when she asked them what their vagina would wear if it could get dressed.

Sixteen students will perform Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the Mass Media and Technology Hall auditorium. The cost is $7.

Ensler, a New York City native, interviewed women about their vaginas and experiences. She created a play – presented as a series of monologues – based on those interviews.

The topic of each monologue ranges from rape to pubic hair. The content of the play represents women from different racial, ethnic and sexual backgrounds.

Ensler began performing the play in 1996 as a small off-broadway show. The play has since been performed around the world.

Art work will be displayed in the hall outside of the auditorium as part of the Feminist Art Show.

The performance last year sold out and about 30 students were turned away.

Bowling Green junior Shelly Glorioso, producer of the play, said those wanting to attend should arrive by 7 p.m.

Tara Regan, a senior from Akron, Ohio, will perform in Wednesday night’s production of the play for the first time.

“I had always wanted to be part of it – once I found out I was going to have the opportunity I was really excited,” Regan said.

Money made from ticket sales will go to Barren River Area Safe Space. The program offers around the clock assistance to victims of domestic abuse. Among the services BRASS offers are temporary lodging for victims, legal and medical advocacy, individual counseling and support groups.

BRASS services 10 counties in south central Kentucky, including Warren County.
