Gregory to perform

The self-proclaimed “funniest man in America” is coming to Western.

Comedian James Gregory is performing on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Van Meter Hall.

Steve Pritchard of Music City Artists in Nashville said Gregory has been performing for over 20 years and has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

“This guy is unbelievable,” Pritchard said. “He’s a little bit under the radar. He’s not as well known as some of the other comedians, but I can assure that he is as funny or even funnier than any of the famous comedians.”

Pritchard said Gregory will do a PG-rated show.

“It’s hard to do comedy when you do PG,” Pritchard said. “But he does a show that appeals to everybody from college students, to families to 80-year-olds.”

The event is not directly associated with the university, said Rachel Manning, special events facilitator for Western.

Manning said Music City Artists approached Western about using Van Meter Hall. Gregory previously performed in Bowling Green at the Sloan Convention Center.

Advance tickets are available for $20, plus a service charge, through Western’s ticket office. Tickets at the door will be $25.

Manager Lenny Sisselman said that Gregory is special because he has the same Southern background as the people he makes laugh.

“He comes from a point of view that is really uncommon in America,” Sisselman said. “He comes from a place that I can relate to and talks about stuff common folk can relate to.”

The show will feature two other comedians besides Gregory. The New Jersey-based Wiseguys will open the show on Saturday.
