The eerie strains of the theme song to the famous Michael Myers film “Halloween” might fill the Mass Media and Technology Hall auditorium tomorrow when the film’s director, John Carpenter, visits Western.

Not only will Carpenter speak, he’ll also visit classes throughout the week as an artist-in-residence.

Carpenter’s lecture, “Censorship in Contemporary America,” begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free to Western students and the public.

The son of a Western music professor, Carpenter began his college career at Western before transferring to the University of Southern California to study filmmaking.

David Lee, dean of Potter College, said the university wanted Carpenter to speak because of his Western connection.

“He’s obviously someone very accomplished from the Bowling Green area,” Lee said. “We thought he’d be a great person for our students to interact with.”
