• The City Commission announced Tuesday night that it may issue up to $2 million in bonds to purchase land between Center and Kentucky streets for the proposed Greek village site.

City Commissioner Dan Hall said the notice doesn’t necessarily mean that money from the city has been earmarked for the project, but it does serve the commission’s legal requirement to notify the community of the possible bond issuing.

“All we did (Tuesday) night was merely set the stage,” Hall said.

The commission also approved a measure to apply for two grants from the Renaissance Program totaling $1.25 million to help finance the downtown revitalization project.

The state-administered grants are funded through the Federal Highway Transportation Program, Hall said.

The next City Commission meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
