Rape reported in dorm

A juvenile female student was reportedly raped this weekend in Barnes-Campbell Hall.

The incident happened between 9 p.m. Saturday and 12:47 a.m. Sunday, a campus police report said.

The name of the victim was not released by campus police. The Herald does not print the names of reported sexual assault victims.

The report said the incident was reported at 12:47 by Tony Simms, a resident assistant in Barnes.

The girl was taken to The Medical Center at 1:34 a.m. The report said that police labeled the incident as a rape after an investigation of the scene.

Capt. Mike Wallace said last night he could not comment because he did not have full knowledge of the case. It is unknown whether campus police have any suspects.

Maj. Jerry Phelps, who arrived to the scene at 2:07 a.m. Saturday, could not be reached for comment.

Housing staff would not comment when contacted last night.
