A Bowling Green woman who escaped from police custody late Thursday night was caught at the Henry Hardin Cherry statue in front of Cherry Hall.

Tammy Kinniard, 38, was arrested around 11 p.m. Thursday when Warren County sheriff’s deputies Mike Hatler and Pamela Massey discovered a white powdery substance in her car parked in the driveway of Alpine Lodge on Morgantown Road.

According to the press release, Hatler said he saw a powdery substance on the mouth of Kinniard’s passenger, Christopher Black.

Hatler tested the substance and determined it was suspected meth, according to the report.

Det. J.B. Davis said Black ingested an estimated 16 grams of meth.

Black died en route to The Medical Center, Davis said.

Kinniard, who was handcuffed with her hands behind her back, got out of the back of the patrol car, Davis said, but was soon apprehended and brought back to the car.

Davis said they are still investigating how she escaped.

Kinniard said she was suicidal and complained that she was sick, so officers decided to transport her to The Medical Center.

Massey was driving on Kentucky Street with Kinniard handcuffed in the back of a moving patrol car when she jumped out at Kentucky and 14th streets, Davis said.

Massey also jumped out and chased Kinniard, who was running toward the Hill. She was caught with the assistance of a student, Davis said.

Kinniard was out of police custody less than 10 minutes, Davis said. Campus police, the Bowling Green Police Department and Kentucky State Police all assisted during the foot pursuit.

“We don’t want someone escaping on campus,” Davis said. “You never know what will happen.”

Kinniard was admitted to the psychological ward of The Medical Center and released the next day and taken to jail. She remains in Warren County Regional Jail with no bond. She has been charged with disarming a police officer, two counts of escape in the first degree, tampering with physical evidence and possession of methamphetamines.
