John Bradley has found his calling in life: serving other people.

Bradley will be serving 17,000 plus students next fall.

The Paducah junior is the sole candidate in this year’s student government association presidential race.

Bradley is currently the executive vice-president of SGA.

“I feel … I have made our student congress a forum for legitimate dialogue regarding student issues,” Bradley said. “I have worked with everyone in SGA that is concerned with policy making and kept my promise to depolarize the organization.”

He has also served as SGA’s student representative on several campus committees including: campus improvements committee chair, university food services committee and Diddle seating committee. He is also a member of the Student Life Foundation.

As president he said he plans to work to unify congress and make SGA a more accessible organization.

“I will also empower the students by making them an integral part of the decision making process,” Bradley said.

He wants to work closely with other officers on the executive cabinet to make positive changes for the university. Listed at the top of Bradley’s agenda are improving the parking situation, keeping the cost of education at Western low and working to make campus friendlier to those with disabilities.

He sites the legislation for the WWHR FM student referendum as a major accomplishment this semester. That piece of legislation will be on the ballot during the April election and will allow students to decide if a $3 fee increase recommendation should be passed on to the Board of Regents to vote on. The money will go toward the radio station’s operating budget.

“This referendum empowers the students and gives them the chance to vote on an issue that directly affects all of us,” Bradley said.

As president, Bradley will be a part of the university decision making process by serving as the student representative on the Board of Regents.

“As a member (of the Board of Regents) I will represent the students with tact and vote in the best interests of the student body.” Bradley said.

The presidential race is unopposed but Bradley is trying to help build the executive cabinet by campaigning with fellow SGA members Jessica Martin ,Vice-president of administration candidate, and Dana Lockhart, executive vice-president candidate. Last year, Bradley defeated Lockhart in a race for the executive vice-president position.

“Lockhart, Martin and I are campaigning together because we have one common goal — better student government,” Bradley said.

The staff of Pearce-Ford tower will host a forum for all SGA candidates at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday April 1. The forum will be held outside of PFT if weather permits. Otherwise it will be held in the lobby of PFT.

Internet polling for SGA elections will begin Wednesday, April 2 and continue until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 3. Students can vote by logging onto topnet.wku.edu.
