Last night America took action.

About 90 minutes after Saddam Hussein missed deadline, U.S. forces used firepower to light the night sky over Baghdad.

Regardless of our differing opinions about the legitimacy of the military action in Iraq, there’s one point on which we can all agree.

Our troops, which include Western students and friends and relatives of students, deserve our appreciation.

It doesn’t matter how you choose to support our forces. Some will prominently display the American flag. Some will pray. Some may even enlist.

Stand up for what you believe in. Take action yourself. If you feel strongly against it, protest the war. If you support George W., protest the protesters. Just do it safely and respectfully.

There’s no greater freedom than having a voice. Use it anytime and anywhere.

Continue living your life. Watch the news coverage but keep packing for spring break.

Say the pledge when you get the chance and sing the national anthem during the NCAA tournament.

Give a hug to the families and friends of troops in Iraq.

Take a stand, but know that there are Hilltoppers overseas that need your support.

Remember, they’re fighting for us, whether we want them to or not.
