Lovan seeking public relations office

Abby Lovan, a junior from Jeffersonville, Ind., said she became active in the Student Government Association as a way to help students and to become more involved in the university.

“(SGA has) a voice, and we are able to help students,” she said. “We are an important organization on campus, and I want to be able to help students through that organization.”

Lovan is currently running unopposed for SGA vice president of Public Relations. She said she decided to run as a way to become more involved in the organization.

This is Lovan’s fourth semester as an SGA member.

“I decided to join my first semester here,” she said.

Since joining, she has been a member of Congress, the public relations committee and an internal review committee. She was also vice chair of the public relations committee, chair of the ad hoc committee and special programs coordinator.

As a member of the public relations committee, Lovan said, she has helped develop promotional items for SGA and put SGA suggestion boxes in every residence hall.

She is currently working on several other pieces of legislation through the public relations committee. She said she is interested in increasing awareness of the SGA and continuing to keep in contact with other universities. She also hopes to attract more students to SGA.

“I think we need to work on keeping the numbers in student government up,” she said.

Outside of SGA, Lovan is a member of both the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and Alpha Omega Pi sorority. She currently serves as environmental awareness chair for AOPi.

Lovan is a corporate and organizational communications major and dance minor. Last year she was a member of the forensics team.

“I feel I am able to do any kind of correspondence work that SGA needs done,” she said.
