Construction worker causes dorm fire

The Bowling Green Fire Department responded to a fire in Barnes-Campbell Hall on Dec. 24 at 8:32 a.m.

The dorm was undergoing renovation and all students’ belongings had been moved out over Christmas break.

A Bellinger Construction worker was using a cutting torch to remove the trash chute on the dorm’s 9th floor when a piece of molten metal ignited trash that was lodged between the trash chute liner and brick wall, according to a campus police report.

The fire was extinguished, and anything damaged was removed as part of the renovation process, said Brian Kuster, director of Housing and Residence Life.
