I hope the Herald will run a story on WKU recognizing its top faculty at the Convocation held in Van Meter Tuesday, August 13, the week before classes began. There was a printed program for this event.

There Provost Barbara Burch awarded the university’s honor of “University Distinguished Professor” to Dr. Carol Crowe-Carrico, and me, Dr. Kenneth Kuehn, for the years 2002-2007. We each received a medallion.

Four Annual Awards for the previous, 2001-02, academic year were also presented to the winning faculty but you’ll need to dig out the names. These winners each received a silver bowl from Dr. Burch.

University Award for Outstanding Teaching:

University Award for Outstanding Research: Joe Bilotta, Psychology

University Award for Outstanding Public Service:

University Award for Outstanding Student Advising: Ken Crawford, Biology

I believe the Herald misses this event every year because it occurs in the week before students return, but which is a very busy week for faculty. I think all the students as well as faculty/staff who did not attend the convocation would be interested. Thanks.
