Lady Toppers to host Bellarmine for preseason exhibition
August 14, 2021
The WKU Soccer program will be hosting the Bellarmine Knights at the WKU Soccer Complex on Sunday, Aug. 15 for its second and final exhibition match of the preseason.
Last Saturday night, the Lady Toppers shut out the UT Martin Skyhawks 1-0 in their first exhibition match of the year with WKU sophomore Lily Rummo notching the game-winning goal early in the first half to seal the victory.
This past Thursday, the Bellarmine Knights competed against the Butler Bulldogs on the road in Indianapolis, Ind. for an exhibition match in which the Knights were shut out by their Big East Conference opponent.
The ASUN Conference challenger concluded last season with a 2-6-3 overall record and the Kennesaw State Owls edged out the Knights in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Championship with less than three minutes left in regulation.
The last time the Lady Toppers met the Knights on the pitch was last preseason when the Knights hosted WKU for an exhibition match in Louisville. The Knights managed to hold the Lady Toppers scoreless as the match concluded in a 0-0 draw.
Bellarmine senior Elise Markley is one of the Knight’s key players, recording 4 total points last season with two goals scored. The Chagrin Falls, Ohio native received several conference accolades last season including making the ASUN All-Academic Team and earning an ASUN Defensive Player of the Week nod the week of March 2.
Sophomore Sophie Bish is another one of the Knight’s strongest players. Last season, the Wilmore, Ky. native scored two points and recorded one goal.
Both programs will take the pitch at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon.
