The fourth meeting of the 21st senate was called into order on Tuesday, Sept. 14. During the meeting, the senate voted unanimously for four senate members, two judicial council members and a director of academic and student affairs. The meeting included the introduction of new SGA committees and a guest speaker.
The new senate members include Troy D. Davis, Preston Romanov, Jacob Skillman, and Zach Skillman.
Abbey Norvell and Nicole Massarone were both voted as members of the judicial council.
“I’m very excited for my nomination,” Norvell said. “After serving in SGA on the legislative side of things, I’m really excited to work with the judicial council, especially with my future aspirations in law school.”
Trib Singh was voted as the director of academic and student affairs. Singh said he wants to use his position to bring awareness to the opportunities that SGA offers students such as free tutoring and the writing center.
The newly elected members were sworn in towards the end of the session.
Tess Welch, speaker of the senate, encouraged senate members to begin thinking about which committees they want to join. Welch introduced the Legislative Operations Committee as well as committees on student experience, mental health, sustainability, campus improvement, diversity, and student outreach.
Chad Meadows, WKU director of debate, spoke to SGA members encouraging them to look into the forensics/speech and debate team. Meadows said that forensics allows students to gain experience in public speaking, make connections, and learn new skills.
“We want to develop, emphasize, and help grow you as a person,” Meadows said.
The fourth meeting of the 21st senate concluded, but SGA members gathered later that night anticipating election results for The Gatton Academy and freshman senators.
Elected freshman senators include Addison Falkner, Sam Kurtz, and Jenna Wells. Arivumani Srivastava was elected as the senator for The Gatton Academy.
