The Starbucks located in Downing Student Union, a popular stop for students in between classes, will close until Jan. 24.

The coffee shop announced on Friday it will reopen Monday of next week in a Tweet sent out by the WKU Restaurant Group. Normal operations will resume on that date. 

According to the WKU Restaurant Group, the temporary closure is due to a portion of staff being out due to illness.

“Some of the staff at our Starbucks location are out due to illness which makes it difficult to have adequate coverage for our shifts,” the group said.

The group stresses that this closure is not due to any supply chain issues, but instead they are short staffed due to illness.

To combat any worker shortages at their restaurants, the group has held multiple job fairs over the past couple of months.

“We offer many benefits to encourage students to come work with us,” the group said.
