Lady Topper Golf finishes 13th at Ironwood Invitational

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers women’s golfer Sarah Arnold plays a practice round at Olde Stone Country Club.

The WKU Women’s Golf program finished in 11th place in its final regular season tournament of the 2021-22 campaign with a 7-over 295 in the final round of the Ironwood Invitational on Tuesday.

“We had a really good back nine today, and I’m proud of the way Sarah [Arnold] and Olivia [Reed] fought through some adversity and bounced back from a rough few days,” WKU head coach Adam Gary said in a press release.. “We’ve certainly got work to do in the next two weeks leading up to the conference championships, but I’m proud of our effort today.”

On the last day of play, junior Sarah Arnold led the team with the best round of the week at 2-under 70, climbing 18 spots on the leaderboard. She tied with sophomore Rachel Rich for 53rd. Rich ended the outing at 13-over 229 and 4-over 76 on the day. 

Fifth-year senior Olivia Reed put up the best finish of any Lady Topper with a 54-hole total of 8-over 224 in the tournament and 2-over 74 on the final day. She tied for 36th. Freshman Faith Martin stroked a 3-over 75, tying for 56th place. Senior Kenlie Barrett also hit 4-over 76 tying for 62nd. 

Freshman Catie Craig competed as an individual, ending her time at the Invitational with a 7-over 79 and tied for 68th.

WKU will compete in the Conference USA Championships at PGA National on April 18-20.
