WKU Softball’s fifth-year senior Shelby Nunn and junior Taylor Sanders earned Conference USA Pitcher and Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This marks the second time in the 2022 season the program has swept the weekly awards. It also marks the seventh naming of these honors for a Hilltopper this year, making it Sanders’ second and Nunn’s third.

Both assisted their team in winning a weekend series over C-USA foe Marshall that put WKU at first place in the East division with a record of 13-5.

In the series, Nunn threw two complete games, appearing in all three. She also pitched in a mid-week game against Lipscomb, bringing in a record of 3-1 for the week.  She tossed 16.1 innings, giving up nine hits and one walk. She also delivered 13 strikeouts with an ERA of 0.86.

Sanders hit three doubles, a home run and 10 total RBIs while slashing .500/.538/1.000. Her most impressive game was Sunday where she hit six RBIs while going 3-for-3 at the plate in a run-ruled victory over Marshall.

The two awardees led the Hilltopper squad to a 30-win season for the eighth time in the past 10 seasons.

Nunn and Sanders alongside the rest of Hilltoppers will be back in action Wednesday for a midweek game against No. 2 Alabama at 6 p.m. at the WKU Softball Complex.
