The National Dance Education Organization is hosting its annual “Kick the Clock” dance festival, starting Friday, Feb. 10 in Gordon Wilson Hall studio B.

“Kick the Clock” is a 24 hour dance event, where individuals who sign up are assigned a random choreographer and song, having to create a short work to then be performed at the showcase Saturday night.

“Since the festival is collaborative, the resulting piece will be a representation of not only the choreographer but also the thoughts and ideas of each participant,” Chelby Woods, president of NDEO, said. 

All dancers, regardless of dance background or major, are invited to attend, Woods said.  

The theme for this year’s event is “love” combined with Black History Month, Woods said. All songs used in the event will be composed or recorded by black artists.

“Kick the Clock is a way for us to bring all dancers or movers regardless of their major together to smile, laugh and enjoy the beauty of dance,” Woods said.

The event begins Friday, Feb 10 at 6 p.m., and the 24 hours conclude on Saturday, Feb. 11, with the showcase at 6 p.m., location to be announced.
