WKU Softball falls in midweek game against Louisville

WKU Softball (23-18) lost to the Louisville Cardinals (29-14) 3-2 on Wednesday, April 19 at the WKU Softball Complex.
To start the game, Louisville put someone on base with a two out walk in the first, but she was left stranded.
WKU had runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the first, but failed to produce a run.
Louisville went down 1-2-3 in the second.
Freshman Katlyn Kemp collected a leadoff knock in the bottom frame; however, she was left on first.
Louisville put two on with one out in the third, but couldn’t capitalize.
Fifth year senior Taylor Davis reached with one away in the bottom of the third, but she was kept on first.
A leadoff homer and an RBI double put Louisville up 2-0 in the fourth.
WKU went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
Louisville had another run cross on a groundout RBI in the fifth, 3-0.
A two RBI single from senior Brylee Hage closed the Lady Topper deficit to one, 3-2.
Louisville failed to respond in the top of the sixth.
WKU put a runner on with two outs but she was kept on first.
Louisville had a runner reach on a walk in the seventh; however, she was left on.
Fifth year senior Faith Hegh hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lady Toppers couldn’t make use of the leadoff runner, losing to the Cardinals by one.
With this loss the Lady Toppers have dropped eight of their last 10. WKU sits at fifth in the C-USA standings with an important three game series against the Florida Atlantic Owls, who sit at one in the conference, coming up.
The series against the Owls will be April 21-23 at the WKU Softball Complex.
