WKU Softball hosted the FAU Owls for a three-game series April 22-23. The Hilltoppers picked up a series win, claiming two out of three games over the Owls.

Although the Hilltoppers offense did not put up an abundance of runs over the weekend, the pitching gave the team a series win

Game 1

The Hilltoppers began the weekend Saturday with a 3-2 win over FAU in the first game of a doubleheader.

WKU jumped out to an early lead in the first game of the series with two runs in the first on a sac fly and an RBI triple, making it 2-0.

FAU responded with individual runs in back-to-back innings in the second and third, with an RBI double and a solo homer, to make the game 2-2.

The Hilltoppers took the lead back in the fourth with an RBI single, making it a 3-2 game.

Freshman Kaytlan Kemp carried the Hilltoppers to victory with a strong performance at the plate. Kemp tallied two hits, an RBI, and a run in the contest.

Both teams failed to score throughout the rest of the contest and WKU claimed a 3-2 victory.

Game 2

WKU claimed a series victory with a 1-0 win over the Owls Saturday in game two of the doubleheader.

The game was very uneventful as the Hilltoppers won despite only recording four hits as a team.

The Hilltoppers claimed victory over the Owls with a sixth inning RBI triple by fifth year player Taylor Davis.

Pitching ultimately won the game for WKU as redshirt sophomore Kelsie Houchens pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only five hits.

Game 3

FAU avoided the series sweep in the final game of the series Sunday with a 5-1 victory over the Hilltoppers.

Both offenses were silent until the fourth inning when FAU began the scoring with a two-RBI double to make it 2-0.

FAU then gave the Hilltoppers their first run by walking home a run, making it 2-1.

The Owls then pulled away with an RBI sac fly and a two-RBI single, giving them a 5-1 lead and ultimately the win.

The Hilltoppers will return to the field Monday when they host the University of Arkansas at 6 p.m. CT.
