WKU Basketball head coach Steve Lutz completed his staff search Tuesday, as he hired Darryl Jackson and Martin Cross as Assistant Coaches.
Cross earned the promotion to assistant coach after an extensive period of time on the Hilltopper staff. He spent four years as a student manager for the team and in 2015-16 worked as WKU’s video coordinator. Cross served as the Director of WKU Basketball Operations for the last six seasons.
In Cross’s time on the hill so far, he has contributed to numerous Power 5 wins such as Ole Miss and Louisville and was vital in the development of former C-USA First Team Member Dayvion Mcknight.
“Martin bleeds WKU red and has been a tremendous asset for me and the program from the day that I arrived.” Lutz said.
Darryl Jackson also joins the staff coming off his previous job of Assistant coach at Wetherby College in Texas. Last year, Jackson was a part of a squad that went 23-8 which was the program’s best record in 15 years.
Jackson also spent time coaching at Detroit Mercy, Garden City Community College, Navarro College and at the pro level as well with the Windsor Express in NBL Canada.
“I am so thankful for the warm welcome from everyone here at Western Kentucky University and excited for the opportunity Coach Lutz has given me to coach and develop these players,” Jackson said. “We have a group of very talented individuals that I know will achieve great things this season; both on the court and in the classroom.”
