At SGA’s 8th meeting of the 23rd Senate on Wednesday, Karley Solorzano, senator at large, received the Chief Justice’s Verdict Award from Isaac King, chief justice of the judicial council.
Along with requiring senators to get office hours and encouraging them to attend tabling events, King created the award as a way to get the judicial council more involved in SGA this year.
“The judicial council is like the [US] Supreme Court of Western. So if there’s any complaints about [the] senators or executives, [those] will come to us. We also interpret the [SGA] Constitution,”King said.
The award was given to Madison Payne, Ogden College senator, in August.
King said he chose Solorzano for the September recipient because of the strength she has shown since joining SGA.
Not only is Solorzano a first year senator, but she is also a first year committee head for the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee.
“SGA has definitely been like going on a learning curve for me. But, everyone’s been so helpful and so nice and helping me figure out everything […] I’m very grateful I was able to receive this [award],” Solorzano said.
