WKU paid Jordan Davis, award-winning country singer and songwriter, $150,000 for a pregame concert on South Lawn, Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Davis was signed in his contract to play for one hour, as well as conduct the coin toss at the football game, for which he received a flat rate guarantee of $150,000, according to records obtained by the Herald.
The contract states that the “PURCHASER”, WKU, “to provide and pay for, at no cost to ARTIST [Davis], first-class sound, lights, and production, per ARTIST’s rider requirements,” as well as “mutually agreeable catering and dressing room hospitality, per ARTIST’s rider requirements.”
The stage setup for the Davis concert cost $63,000, according to records obtained by the Herald. The invoice comes from Duane, the company that provided design, staging, lighting, audio and video. Among the costs of the setup included a generator, a wireless mic, a 53’ tractor trailer and driver, as well as production and stage managers and the stage deck itself.
The concert was free for all attendees, and Davis played for roughly an hour. The concert came before the Hilltoppers took on Liberty.
Davis’ performance comes almost a year after DJ Diesel, Shaquille O’Neal, performed a similar concert on South Lawn for students.
