WKU Softball fell to Eastern Kentucky University 2-1 on Mar. 13 at the WKU Softball Complex, putting the Hilltoppers at 15-8-1 on the yearÂ
WKU was first to post a run in the matchup. Senior utility Kelsey Schmidt homered to left field in the bottom of the second inning.
EKU responded in the third inning to tie the game.
The Colonel’s took the lead in the seventh inning and the Hilltoppers were unable to respond, ultimately resulting in a WKU loss.
Freshman pitcher Rylan Smith pitched five innings, allowing two hits and one run. She also threw four strikeouts.
Fifth year pitcher Katie Gardner pitched the other two innings with two hits, one run and three strikeouts.
WKU will continue their season in a March 15 face off against Florida International University at 6p.m. CST at the WKU Softball Complex.
