WKU Baseball picked up its second walk-off victory in two days April 10 against the Bellarmine Knights in a 9-8 victory.
The Hilltoppers welcomed the Knights to town in an adjusted rain delayed contest the day after knocking off Louisville at Nick Denes Field.
WKU has now won seven of its last eight matchups and sits at 23-11 on the season.Â
Bellarmine defeated the Hilltoppers 9-7 last time the two schools faced off in 2023 and the all-time series sits at 2-2.
WKU jumped out to another early lead Wednesday with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Junior Blake Cavill began another strong performance with a two-RBI double in the first to get WKU on the board and junior Joey Baran added another run with an RBI double.
The Knights cut the deficit to 3-2 in the second on an error and RBI groundout before WKU added to its lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.
Both teams scored again in the third as Bellarmine added two on an RBI double and a passed ball and WKU scored on a solo homer by Cavill to make it 5-4.
Bellarmine tied it back up in the fifth before WKU took a 7-5 advantage in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly and fielder’s choice RBI.
The Knights proceeded to tie it again at 7-7 with a two run homer in the sixth.
Bellarmine then took its first lead of the game with an RBI groundout in the ninth to make it 8-7.
WKU responded with two runs in the bottom of the ninth, winning a second straight game in walk-off fashion 9-8.Â
The two runs came on an errant throw by Bellarmine’s third baseman on a ground ball by sophomore Camden Ross.
Three Hilltoppers recorded two hits in the contest including Cavill who also had three RBIs and three runs scored.
Sophomore Elliott Rossell picked up the win on the mound for WKU, pitching three innings and allowing one hit and one run.
The Hilltoppers will travel to Sam Houston April 12-14 to take on the Bearkats in a three-game series.
