WKU’s Gender and Women’s Studies program held a “Feminist Craft Night” event alongside the WKU League of Sculptors where students participated in a night of painting, drawing and other crafts while engaging with feminist ideas.
The event was hosted by Gender and Women’s Studies Program Coordinator Marla Zubel as an alternative to the regular monthly feminist chat series.
Zubel said the event is a way to provide a comfortable environment and safe space for students who are struggling with the recent election.
“A lot of students connected to Gender and Women’s Studies and on campus are having pretty strong reactions to the results of the election,” Zubel said, “Creating a space where people can come together and be reminded that there are like-minded feminists, women, trans folks and allies on campus is really important.”
Arianna Mioni, a journalism major and gender and women’s studies minor, said she attended the event to connect with other people and relax before the semester gets crazy.
“It’s also a way to just connect with people, especially after things have been so intense and kind of remind everybody how loved they are and how you can really push all your negative feelings into making creative art and heal from that.”
The Gender and Women’s Studies program hosts monthly feminist chats in Cherry Hall 301.
