The US Post Office operation in the Downing Student Union will close until further notice on Friday to “explore options to provide more comprehensive mail services to campus” according to an email sent by Assistant Vice President of Business Services Jennifer Tougas Wednesday evening to faculty and staff.
WKU Mail Services currently offers delivery of incoming and processing of outgoing US Mail, along with collection and distribution of campus mail and Passport Services.
The closure does not affect passport services, WKU Post Office Boxes, departmental mail or USPS service to residence halls, according to the email. Personal items can be mailed at the downtown US Post Office at 628 State St.
Surplus Materials Management Manager Beth Gafford will assume management of Campus Mail and shipping and receiving and surplus operations, Tougas said in the email.
“Business Services is actively exploring opportunities to being a copy/print/mail service to campus as a replacement for the contracted post office operation; however, that project will take time to materialize,” the email states.
